Power is an important catalyst of progress.  To jumpstart development, the Company is resolute in providing electricity to the whole island of Semirara.  Over the years, energizing communities brought forth evident changes to the lifestyles of the residents of the island.  New businesses and livelihood activities sprouted when electricity became available.  Also, this enabled Semirara island to get connected to the world when people gained access to internet, cable TV, and mobile communication technologies.    

The goal to fully energize the whole island of Semirara is nearing its completion as more electrical connections were established.  In 2008, 90% of total households were already energized.  Total consumption inched up to 786,485 kwh in 2008. 

ENERGIZED COMMUNITIES

When the new management took over the Company's operations in 1999, it started to energize its surrounding communities as part of its CSR program.An indicator of the success of the program is the rising electric consumption of the communities in the island of Semirara from 1999 up to the present.  In addition, to further ensure its success, the Company shares in shouldering the cost of electricy of each households in form of subsidies.  Hence, corresponding the increase in consumption, the Company's subsidy likewise increased over the years.  The table below shows the community's increasing electric consumption vis-a-vis the Company's rising subsidy from 1999 to 2008.
